How does ME/CFS start?

There are a number of different factors in the development of Fatigue related conditions. Viruses, bacterial infections, operations, vaccinations, etc. can all be triggers. This can lead to the development of Post Viral Fatigue Syndrome (PVFS), Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) and Fibromyalgia (FM). The cause can also be attributed to a stressful incident or time in a persons life. The common factor in all of theses cases is that the sufferer's system is under stress.

What happens when we are under stress?

We produce a powerful cocktail of chemicals - including cortisol, adrenalin and noradrenalin as a result of entering this state. This is the same chemistry produced during the fight or flight response - a natural process that is triggered in reaction to a perceived or real threat.

Many physiological changes occur during fight or flight

The sympathetic nervous system is responsible for a number of changes taking place. Heart rate and blood pressure increase in order to supply additional fuel to the major muscles. What is a Mole

There is a mole on everyone somewhere. You may be asking, What is a mole? Well, a mole is a collection of cells called melanocyte. These cells give skin its color. If there is just one mole it is called a nevus, if there is more than one it is called a nevi. Most people are born with their moles. Ths sun just gives them color.

Moles come in a variety of sizes, colors and shapes. Most moles are brown or black, but they can be blue, translucent, red or flesh toned. Some moles are flat to the skin and others form a bulb of flesh on the surface of the skin. Most of the time, moles appear in the first twenty to thirty years of life. Your age, race, and genetics are all factors in the amount of moles and types of moles that you have. Environment also plays a factor in the development of the mole. Sun exposure is one environmental factor that plays a role in the development of moles.

A junctional nevus grows from cells in the epidermis, the outer layers of skin. This type of mole is flat and appears blackish brown. An intradermal nevus stays in the dermis, inner layer of skin. This mole is a variety of colors from brown to flesh tone. They are soft and raised. Compound nevi are mixtures of the two areas of skin and fit right in the middle. They're height is more than a junctional and less than an intradermal.

The next type of mole gives a lot of people the most scare. It is the blue nevus. The blue nevus is blue-black in color and may people often mistake it for skin cancer.

The final way to identify moles are by regularities. They do not resemble symmetrical moles and are called dysplastic moles or atypical moles. They can sometimes be cancerous and resemble melanoma. The mnemonic device ABCDs can be used to identify these irreuglarities. A is for asymmetry when one side isn't the same as the other. B is for irregular borders they are uneven. C is for color and they don't have the same color throughout. Finally, D is for diameter when one is bigger than most at 6mm.

Make sure you check your mole if it is bleeding or you see differences in an old mole you need to go to your doctor. If you catch melanoma when you first find it is easier to cure. Just be aware of any irregularities of your mole.

There are different kinds of drug rehab programs and services existing. Of course, the sort of rehabilitation hub you end up going to depends on the sum of money you can spend, the problem you have, and the place where you reside. This is most commonly used by people who have children at home and don't want to be away from them for months or longer periods of time.

Outpatient rehab is the least intensive method. In this, the patient attends therapy just a few times every month or every week. The therapy period is also not very long in this. This is best for people who only had a mild addiction and may not harm themselves.

Heat Stroke Targets

The majority of victims that are usually easily affected by heatstroke are the kids and the elderly, as their adaptability to differing temperatures are usually less responsive compared to those in their prime. Those who are severely fat and obese are at also greater risk than those who are slim and fit because the body has a great difficulty dissipating the body heat through the thick layers of lipids and fat.

First aid should be given in haste and should consist of differing methods that should immediately bring the core temperature to at least 39 degrees Celsius. One quick method of doing so is by rubbing the body with a cloth dipped in cold (not ice) water. Alcohol also works fine, as the liquid dissipates into the air fast enough, taking heat away as well; just make sure that you are doing so in a well-ventilated environment.

Should you give a cold bath, do so. But don't do with an ice bath, as the immediate drop in temperature might lead to cardiac arrest. Once temperature has at least reached the 39 degree mark, slowly lead the body to cool down a bit more slowly now. Don't shock the body with an immediate temperature change, never forget this.

A lesser form of heatstroke, or rather a milder version of it, is heat exhaustion. This less severe condition occurs when the afflicted person feels tired, fatigued, and a bit nauseous and dizzy because of profound and long exposure to heat.

This is because of over sweating, which usually brings about excessive loss of body salts, though the body is at a normal or below normal temperature thanks to it. Giving first aid means having small sips of salt water to replenish the lost salts and a massage to areas affected by cramps, which usually follows after heat exhaustion.

Sleep Apnea Linked to Higher Risk of Sudden Cardiac Death

Sleep apnea increases a patients risk of death by heart attack according to medical research from the Mayo Clinic. CPAP therapy is the prescribed treatment to avoid the risks associated with sleep apnea.

Over 10,000 patients were examined. The researchers found that sleep apnea increased the likelihood of sudden death among patients with heart disease. (As a risk factor, apnea was second only to being over 60 years of age.)

When not treated by CPAP therapy, sleep apnea causes nighttime oxygen levels in the blood to drop. Because the blood has less oxygen, the heart is over-stressed in its attempt to get sufficient oxygen to the brain and other vital body organs.

The research shows that these low oxygen levels results in the blood vessels altering in a way that promotes cardiovascular disease. (Other cardiovascular diseases that apnea is also associated with includes hypertension and stroke " along with the related disease of Alzheimers.)

Simply stated, when the air passage doesnt let enough oxygen into the lungs, the body and brain begin to experience problem due to oxygen-depletion.

This is one of many reasons that the National Apnea Association (NAA) recommends that apnea patients utilize the most widely prescribed form of sleep apnea treatment: CPAP (continuous positive air pressure). Other reasons include increasing energy levels, decreasing depression and even assisting patients in losing weight.

To treat apnea requires regular, nightly use of CPAP equipment. However, wearing a CPAP mask and sleeping next to a CPAP machine is not easy for most people. This is the reason why the national average for compliance with CPAP therapy is only 50%.

The NAA recommends three time-proven strategies to increase your chances of successful CPAP therapy:

1. Beware of low quality equipment often manufactured in China. Your sleep doctor or general practitioner should only recommend three manufacturers: ResMed, Fisher & Paykel, and Respironics. These three companies reportedly invest millions in research and development each year. Low quality equipment often does not meet the competitive standards of these three manufacturers and will not give you the same benefits or treat your apnea as effectively.

2. Only buy your CPAP equipment from an authorized dealer. Avoid the many questionable websites that sell grey-market CPAP equipment. Playing Ice Hockey Requires A Lot Of Equipment

Ice hockey is a tremendously fun sport to play but it requires a huge commitment in time and gear to get started. This article will cover all of the basic equipment that you will need to play ice hockey to help you get started.

Start with a good pair of hockey skates. My recommendation is to visit your local hockey shop and try on every pair that they have in your size and pick the ones that are most comfortable. If you end up with skates that don't fit well, you will not enjoy skating in them. To play ice hockey, you need to be decent on your skates. Learn to start, stop, go forward and turn in both directions before trying to actually play hockey. A lot of people use think skates when they use rental skate but this is not what you want when you are performance skating. Thin socks will allow you to feel and control the skates better than a thick sock will.

Hockey isn't hockey without a hockey stick. Ice hockey sticks come in a very large range of choices. Start off with a wood hockey stick and a relatively mild curve on the blade. You don't want a big curve on your blade when you are first starting out because it makes receiving a pass backhanded very difficult and you won't learn the proper shooting techniques. For stick number one it is all about getting a basic model and then growing your skills before choosing your second stick.

Flying pucks hurt if they hit you where you don't have protection. Falling on the ice also hurts when you land on it. This is why the protective hockey gear is so important. You will need a hockey helmet, should pads, elbow pads, hockey pants and shin guards to protect most of your body. Throw in a good pair of hockey gloves and a hockey jill or jock and you will be good to go for protective gear.

Clothing comes next and there are under garments and outer layers to get. The under garments include skate socks, a hockey jock or jill, and an under shirt. Outer clothing include hockey sock that go over then shin guards and a hockey jersey. It is pretty standard to need both a white jersey and a dark jersey so players are easily dividable into teams.

Now we come to a whole host of extra items. These include a hockey bag to hold all of your gear, a special water bottle that you can drink through your mask, shin guard tape (clear and slightly stretchy), hockey stick tape which is cloth tape for your hockey stick blade and for creating a grip on your hockey stick. Don't forget a few hockey pucks!

Once you start to use your hockey gear you will realize that it gets very sweaty and sticky fast. Make sure you air dry your gear after every use and don't be afraid to wash it every once in a while. Other tricks that I have learned include placing dryer sheets in my gloves after use and placing my hockey skates on a boot dryer when I get home from the rink. It is also a good idea to dry the blades of your skates a second time when you get home.

As you can see, there is a large number of items that are required to play ice hockey. Most of these items are for your protection. Don't skip wearing any of them, especially when you are first starting out and playing with other brand new hockey players. The other very important thing to do is to get equipment that fits properly. If you have any doubts ask the folks at your local hockey shop and they will get you set up properly. Good gear will keep you safe and in the game for a long time to come.

Avoiding Childhood Obesity Starts at Home

It's newsworthy how often families nowadays trust the education system to teach their kids all kinds of things other than just reading, writing and arithmetic. Many parents put the obligation for avoiding childhood obesity on the shoulders of the school board as well, believing that gym courses and nutrition had better be a piece of the school's curriculum so that kids can stay fit and healthy. This is a very shortsighted position by parents and one that is a surefire formula for disaster. To combat childhood obesity and to keep youngsters fit and healthy, there must be modifications made in the home first and foremost.

One of the reasons that parents cannot rely on the school systems to take care of this is that many schools just cannot offer gym classes the way they once did. Our schools are normally overcrowded these days so the gymnasium needs to serve as a lunchroom for more hours than ever before. Without regular physical activity, childhood obesity is an almost sure thing. And just instructing a child about calories and fat and nutritional content of food does not mean that he or she is going to avoid junk food and fast food also! Just having the knowledge about these things is not motive sufficient to help a child take the choices needed to avoid childhood obesity.

A parent's example and what happens in the home is definately a better indication of whether or not childhood obesity can be avoided. Children typically take on life style choices and attitudes from their parents whether they're aware of it or not. Parents that are active and that regularly have activities to do will likely raise children that are active and busy as well. Those parents that sit on the couch each evening and on the weekends could find childhood obesity a problem in their own home. This is because children are being taught to be sedentary and inactive. If a parent takes the effort to cook meals that are simple but nourishing a child will learn to value wholesome food and to take the extra time and effort required to prepare such dishes. But when a parent is constantly falling back on drive-through meals and other poor dietary choices, a youngster may learn that such food is acceptable. This also may lead to cases of childhood obesity in the home.

Adults too can set limits with their children while they're with them to help avoid childhood obesity. No one can completely control their child when they're on their own, but serving only nutritious meals and snacks while a child is home will decrease any damage they may be doing by eating junk at every other time! Many cases of childhood obesity are also associated to inaction during the day and evening. With this in mind parents can plan times to go to a zoo, aquarium, or other places where everybody walks around. They can also help stave off childhood obesity by biking, walking, playing catch, playing Frisbee, setting up a badminton net, or other activities that involve all the family members.

As a parent, you must take responsibility for the health of your child. This includes making sure that he/she gets proper nutrition along with adequate exercise. Without this, they may become oe of the many kids that are falling thru the cracks into obesity.

What are you willing to do in order to build muscle?

I thought of an interesting question today as I was reviewing my goals for the next year. You see, as the year draws to an end, I decided that I would become more serious about setting goals and keeping myself on track. As I began picking the list of what I want to accomplish next year, I started to think about what each of these goals would cost in both time and effort.

I've learned to ask myself an important, albeit a difficult, question. Am I willing to do whatever it takes to achieve these goals?

If you're going to be writing a list of goals in the near future and building muscle will be on the list of things you want to accomplish, take a moment to ask yourself the same questions. You see, achievements such as building a strong, muscular body do not simply happen by themselves. They take dedication, commitment, and the initiative to take action.

You may think that you've heard all this before, and maybe that's true. But hearing something a number of times and actually putting it into practice are two completely different things. Without action, that knowledge is worthless.

Whatever you choose to do in your life will be at the expense of something else. You can really only do one thing at any particular moment, so you should know what you're willing to give up.

So are you willing to do what it takes to reach your fitness goals? Which do you prefer, watching that favor TV show or working on a solid strength training program? Can you give up the incredibly tempting ice cream sundaes you eat every day in exchange for a healthier and better looking body?

You may not have to give up every fun thing in your life in order to reach some serious goals, but some sacrifice will inevitably be involved.

A half hour workout a few times a week for several months will accomplish what one five hour workout cannot. Whatever you choose, keep the long term in mind and rest assured that living your dreams tomorrow, in both bodybuilding and beyond, are well worth the price you pay today.

The huge demand for health products and exercise equipment is evidence that an increasing percentage of people around the world are becoming concerned with fat loss and getting in shape. Companies that sell protein pills and ab machines are making a killing because more and more folks are becoming overweight.

More and more people across the globe are becoming obese as the fast food culture reaches other shores. Drive thru burgers and dial-up pizzas are finding more fans and fattening countless bellies.

In their quest to lead healthier lives and find the fastest fat loss method, overweight people embrace the newest fad diet that comes along. The word 'fad' precedes 'diet' because that's just what they are- popular for a while then as folks realize their effects aren't sustainable, these over-hyped diet plans are quickly dropped for the next one that comes along.

The secret to fat loss is no secret at all. It's all about using-up the calories that we get from food and the only way to achieve that is through physical activity. Since the days of plowing the field and foraging for roots and berries are long gone- replaced by drive-thrus and dial-a-pizza, it's quite difficult to burn our daily input of calories without regular exercise.

We only lose weight when we burn more calories than we take in each day. In that light, it's ultimately better to do some form of regular exercise rather than trying to cut back on calories without working out. Depriving ourselves of proper meals can lead to nutrition imbalance not to mention painful ulcers and a low immune system.

Attempting to lose weight by dieting alone isn't really smart because restricting the amount of food we eat makes us feel deprived. Self-deprivation can lead us to binge the next time we see a bucket of extra-crispy chicken or a plate of hot chili cheese fries.

Experts say it's more effective to eat small portions whenever we get the munchies rather than stuffing ourselves every meal. Doing this can also keep our metabolism high and lets us burn calories more efficiently. It's been discovered that our metabolic rate slows down considerably when our body senses a shortage of food.

Having healthy eating habits and sticking to regular fat-burning exercises (cardio and strength training) will help speed-up fat loss and keep metabolism high. Raising the body's metabolic rate means less calories transformed to fat.
