Symptoms of Depression

By Irene Mmari

People who may be suffering from depression or manic disorders actually exhibit or show each and every kind of symptom of depression that doctors will tell you that depressed people have. Sometimes it's actually quite easy to overlook such symptoms and not be able to help yourself or others who are suffering from depression for that matter.

It is quite amazing just how many symptoms of depression there are and as a sufferer will exhibit all of them it should really be easy to spot. However, it isn't necessary for them to suffer from each and every one before you actually help them get diagnosed and treated for this illness.

A couple of the most common and early signs of depression is a gradual but increasing sadness and complete lack of interest in anything that is going on around them. Even now, these two examples of symptoms of depression are described as the best indicators of this condition and a good way to catch the problem early on before it progresses.

Having nothing of interest to look forward too is also a sure sign that something is wrong especially when there is no reason for the situation. You will also find they have negative feelings and thoughts on every subject and cannot see the good in anything, expecting everything to go wrong.

Depressed individuals do not value themselves at all, are lethargic and suffer from terrible guilt. How often have you heard a depressed person saying there is nothing to look forward to and known that they must be suffering from depression? The signs of depression are quite clear and visible to an outsider but the person suffering from depression and low self-worth probably cannot see their situation improving.

Many depressed people cannot even raise the enthusiasm to continue with their favorite pastimes and hobbies. Once this situation has occurred then it really does mean that something serious is happening.

People suffering from depression, since they've lost whatever interest in life they may have had, are actually lacking of physical energy nearly all the time. Mental disorders such as depression often present signs of physical deterioration and there will undoubtedly be serious ramifications to their long term health if the situation does not improve.

Poor concentration on what is going on around them is another symptom of depression that is immediately apparent. Not only this but people suffering with symptoms of depression find it difficult to remember recent events and their attention span is limited.

Symptoms of depression can also include poor sleep patterns especially too much or to little sleep. Just as with sleep, eating can also be affected with either the person eating too much or too little. If the situation has been going on for some time, the depressed person may start being preoccupied with death, especially their own as well as other physical conditions such has stomach problems, headaches for example.
