Osteopathic Back Pain Treatment for Pregnant Women

By Andrew Mitchell

Pregnancy puts an enormous amount of strain upon a woman's body. To be sure, bearing life is no easy task! The average amount of weight gain put on during pregnancy is fourteen kilos and those fourteen (or more!) kilos can put a lot of strain upon a woman's spine and back muscles. A great deal of pregnant women living in the United Kingdom have found that the advice given to them by osteopathic practitioners is the easiest to follow and helps to relieve the back stress a great deal. This article explains some tips given to pregnant women by osteopaths:

1. Don't slack off on your exercise regimen! Unless your doctor forces you into bed rest at some point during your pregnancy or expressly forbids exercising, there is no reason not to work out while you are pregnant. You might not be able to work out as intensely as you usually do, but you can follow your old work out schedule and make a few simple adjustments to your exercise regimen. You don't want your heart rate to rise above 145 bpm, so you will want to concentrate on exercises that help you control your heart rate. Strength training exercises and Core training exercises are always good. Squats and Lunges can still be done while you are pregnant and you should make sure to go for a walk or a swim at least a few times every week during your pregnancy.

2. You will especially enjoy the massage recommended to you by your Osteopath while you are pregnant. Massage will help release the tension that has built up in your back and along your spine. Carrying a baby causes quite a bit of strain and pain in a pregnant woman's back. Tension can also caused by the emotions surrounding a woman as she comes to terms with the fact that she is becoming a mother. A woman and her Osteopath will work together to identify ways in which to deal with the tension that accompanies pregnancy.

3. Proper nutrition is essential while a woman is pregnant and an osteopath can help a pregnant woman figure out a diet that will keep her and her baby healthy. With an ever increasing "do not consume" list for pregnant women, getting proper nutrition can be a challenge. An osteopath will help a pregnant women build a healthy diet while not eating any foods that will risk the health of the baby. Proper nutrition will help keep a pregnant woman's body and the body of her baby as healthy as possible while she is pregnant.

Pregnant women often prefer Osteopaths because they work with an entire person instead of simply treating obvious symptoms. Treating a woman's whole body often puts a pregnant woman's mind at ease.
